Smoke Billows Above Turkish Coast as Wildfire Approaches Resort

A plume of smoke was seen rising into the air on July 29 as a wildfire approached the Turkish coastal resort of Marmaris.

Turkish news outlet Hurriyet reported that the fire began on the afternoon of July 29 and rapidly spread due to high winds.

According to Hurriyet, the mayor of Marmaris, Mehmet Oktay, said: “We are responding to the forest fire in Marmaris with 30 sprinklers, five helicopters, and an airplane ….
