4 Apr – Given Will Smith's history of starring in comedy hits, be it on the small screen or the big screen, it's no surprise that the Hollywood star is hosting a comedy series that's all set to debut on Quibi.

"This Joka" is a 16-episode stand-up comedy series that's not only hosted by the actor, but also executive produced by him under his and wife Jada Pinkett Smith's Westbrook Studios.

"Will's love and respect for stand-up comedy runs deep, and with this series on Quibi, we hope to discover, learn from, and uplift the next generation of diverse comedic talent," said Terence Carter, Westbrook's Co-President, Head Of Television, as quoted by Deadline.

"The goal of This Joka isn't just to laugh, but to find the universal human truths behind the laughter."

Smith invites comedians from different background – new, established, legendary – on the show to "explore the nature of comedy and its unique ability to bring people together".

Co-produced with Topgolf Entertainment Group, the series is shot on location at Topgolf and other popular Las Vegas spots. It will feature stand-up sets and one-on-one interviews between Smith and the comedians, among others.

As mentioned, the series will stream on Quibi, an upcoming American short-form mobile video platform based in Los Angeles that is set to launch this 6 April.

Movie-wise, Smith was most recently seen starring in "Bad Boys for Life" and had been busy filming biographical drama film "King Richard" since last January. The movie's production has been halted following the rapid global spread of COVID-19.
