Slight dip in new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia after yesterday’s record high; four more deaths recorded

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 ― The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that there were 2,985 new Covid-19 cases in the country today.

This represents a slight dip from yesterday’s record high of 3,309 infections.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced four more Covid-19 fatalities as of today.

These comprised two Malaysians in Johor and Sabah, and two foreigners in Sabah.

“Malaysia recorded 2,985 new daily cases today, bringing the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Malaysia to 144,518,” he said during his daily press briefing in Putrajaya today.

Of Selangor’s total, 837 cases came from existing clusters, including 197 from new clusters namely the Taman Integrasi Cluster and Jalan Ijuk Cluster, 294 from close contact screenings, and 232 from Covid-19 screenings.

Johor recorded 535 cases today, with 363 coming from existing clusters, including 118 from newly detected clusters, namely the Jalan Rami Cluster, Kota Cluster and Tanjung Megah Cluster.

Sixty cases emerged from close contact screenings, and the remaining 112 from other Covid-19 screenings.

Meanwhile, Sabah also recorded a high number of daily new cases at 450, with 14 cases from existing clusters, 323 from close contact screenings, and the remaining 113 from Covid-19 screenings.

The other states that recorded new cases are Kuala Lumpur (289), Sarawak (166), Pahang (143), Negri Sembilan (106), Penang (105), Kedah (97), Kelantan (85), Melaka (72), Perak (61) Terengganu (27), Putrajaya (11) and Perlis with one case.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced 994 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 111,578.
