Skai Jackson Opens Up About How She's "Fighting Through" Her Anxiety

From Seventeen

Skai Jackson has been in the spotlight since she was little, but that doesn't mean the pressure to perform doesn't get to her sometimes. The actress opened up recently about her struggles with anxiety and how she's working through them while performing on Dancing with the Stars.

The 18-year-old revealed to People that she first started to experience anxiety when she was a teen. "I would get stage fright when I would do certain speaking engagements and I always would get through them but it was a really nerve-racking and hard thing to do," she said. "The last few years I’ve dealt with it and not knowing how to get through it. It’s been really hard for me."

Of course, being onstage dancing live every week on DWTS can be extremely scary, and Skai admitted that it "challenges" her anxiety, but ultimately, it has helped her get passed it. "I’m trying to break myself out of it in a sense and [I'm] fighting through it."

When she does feel anxiety mounting, though, Skai knows who to reach out to. "My friends are my everything," she said. "When I feel that anxiety I always call them or text them and they talk me through it...My friends know I deal with a lot of things especially anxiety and they’re always here for me which is amazing."

And then there are Skai's fans, who also help her through the hard times. "I feel like talking to them and reading comments or anything to interact with them is the best thing ever and it makes me so happy," she said.

It's a good thing Skai is able to fight through her anxiety because it doesn't seem like she will be leaving DWTS anytime soon.
