Sinitta has offered her service to her ex Simon Cowell as a potential official for his wedding to fiancée Lauren Silverman.

The 58-year-old singer famously dated music mogul Cowell in the 1980s and told the Daily Mail she had hoped to rekindle the romance before his relationship with Silverman became public.

She admitted the news of Cowell's new love "wasn't my happiest moment", but said she had come to terms with the fact her connection to her ex was one of "unrequited love".

Sinitta said she remains friends with Silverman, whom she met years before, and will be coming to the wedding later this year.

"Of course I'm an ordained minister so if they need somebody to officiate the ceremony, I can actually marry them so you know," said the So Macho singer.

She added: "Doing Simon's wedding would be amazing. I haven't pitched the idea to him yet. It's one of my hare-brained schemes.

"Maybe he's not telling me the date because he knows I'll try and officiate the ceremony. I think they're still very much working on it."

Sinitta had previously suggested she wouldn't be able to come along to the wedding due to her commitments to starring as Mama Morton in a touring production of the musical Chicago.

Cowell had famously spoken of his opposition to marriage, only to soften that stance when he popped the question to Silverman, with whom he already shares eight-year-old son Eric.

Sinitta suggested that the isolation of lockdown might have thrown life into sharp focus for Cowell and changed his priorities.

She said: "I think having a child, being a father, lockdown, it's the first time in his life he's actually been alone with his partner and in that dedicated, devoted family situation.

"He must have enjoyed it and thought: 'This is what it's all about, this is family, I can do this'."

Cowell and Silverman announced their engagement in January, nine years after their relationship — which began when Silverman was still married to property developer Andrew Silverman — became public.
