This mobile repair shop is run by Syrian women
Location: Idlib, Syria
Single mothers and widows opened the shop
after an intensive training program on how to dismantle mobile phones
They can now offer repairs that were previously done only by men
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN WOMAN, SIBA AWAD, SAYING:
"At first it was difficult fixing mobile phones."
"But trainers encouraged us, saying women are capable of working. Women generally have more precision when working. That is the reason for our success."
The women can now provide a stable living for their families
They say the majority of their clientele are other women
who feel safer handing them their phones due to privacy concerns
