A session at the Austrian Parliament in Vienna was interrupted on Wednesday, September 21, when Extinction Rebellion activists in the gallery started singing.
Footage recorded by Extinction Rebellion Austria shows several protesters in the parliament gallery on their feet, singing: “For humans and animals, together we stand”.
Local media reported that the parliamentary session, the first since the summer vacation, was interrupted by the protest.
Protesters also threw leaflets and unfurled a banner reading “Listen to the Climate Council”, according to the report.
Extinction Rebellion Austria is calling on Austrian lawmakers to implement the recommendations of the Climate Council. The council is made up of a group of randomly selected Austrians who have handed the government their suggestions on how the country can achieve climate neutrality by 2040.
