Q: What’s your background in sports?

A: I used to play soccer from a young age.

As you got older, what kind of fitness did you dabble in?

Weight training. Fitness helped me gain confidence and I got into bodybuilding.

How did you get into bodybuilding?

I went to watch a bodybuilding competition and that was what inspired me. I found myself wanting to compete one day, wanting to be like them.

It is not easy to achieve that kind of body, where you have to be muscular and ripped with a body fat percentage of 3 to 5 per cent. It is a very challenging sport and that is why I like it so much.

What are some of the challenges about competing in bodybuilding?

Managing the diet and getting the cardio training in – these are the two biggest challenges for me. For the diet, I have to manage the hunger when my body goes into calorie deficit. On top of that, I also need to put in many hours of cardio each week.

What are you doing to help people in fitness now?

As a personal trainer, I will make sure that all my clients get a good session. I will push them hard, get them out of their comfort zones, not just physically but mentally as well. Seeing them become more confident every time they come in, it really makes my day.

What are your fitness goals now?

My fitness goals for this year are just to stay healthy, not get fat and not get the coronavirus.

When did you feel the least confident about yourself?

This was a time when I used to drink a lot (of alcohol) and would end up getting a lot of hangovers. I would then feel very guilty for drinking so much alcohol, because overconsumption of alcohol can lead to unwanted weight gain and slow down the metabolism.

Are you satisfied with your body now?

At the moment I will say that I am not satisfied yet, because I feel that I can do more to become better.
