Travelers who really miss getting on the plane can now reserve seats onboard Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) A380 jumbo jet – to dine, but not to ‘fly to nowhere’.

Following news of airlines in Brunei, Taiwan, Japan and Australia offering ‘flights to nowhere’ that were sold out in minutes, SIA is dropping the idea instead, and introducing the Restaurant A380@Changi dining experience inside their largest aircraft, as part of their ‘Discover Your Singapore Airlines’ suite of experiences.

Diners can choose from special menus for each cabin class, including both International cuisines and a special Peranakan menu that has been designed by Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.

There will be limited slots for an exclusive pre-lunch tour of the A380 as well.

To sweeten the deal, travellers who turn up in traditional heritage wear will receive KrisShop discounts, a limited edition goodie bag and additional gifts.

Reservations for Restaurant A380@Changi will start on 12 October, and operations begin on 24 and 25 October.

Suppose you’re not keen on dining inside the aircraft. The airlines is also providing another experience, SIA@Home, where customers can enjoy their in-flight dining experiences in the comfort of their own homes.

They can choose from 10 menus, featuring First Class and Business Class meals, which will come complete with wine or champagne. They will also be able to buy limited-edition dining ware and amenities depending on the package chosen. The special cabin crew concierge service for SIA@Home bookings opens on 5 October.

The third on-ground experience, Inside Singapore Airlines, takes visitors into their training facilities where they get a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about SIA’s 70 years of history while interacting with pilots and cabin crew.

For children, they can enjoy craft activities such as balloon sculpting and making their own batik roses. They will also have the option to dress up and role play as cabin crew and take home their very own SIA sarong kebaya uniform.

Adults can choose to operate a full flight simulator, taste some of the premium in-flight wine labels, and attend a grooming workshop. A selection of the most popular meals that are served onboard SIA flights will also be on sale. Bookings for Inside Singapore Airlines open on 1 November, and the tours will be held on 21, 22, 28 and 29 November.
