“Shang-Chi” star Simu Liu has expressed uncertainty about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including his potential involvement in the highly anticipated “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
Need-to-know basis: The 34-year-old actor opened up to ComicBook about his role in upcoming MCU projects like “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and the sequel to the 2021 blockbuster hit “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
When asked to share some updates on the upcoming films, Liu said such information was "above my pay grade."
“I just wanna continue to be a fan of it,” he was quoted saying. “When I get a call of like, 'Hey, this is what you're in and this is where you're going to show up. And, this is when you're going to be needed to be blacked out for.' That's kind of generally what tends to happen.”

“Shang-Chi 2” still a go: Liu, however, confirmed that “Shang-Chi 2” is still on the horizon, expressing confidence in director Destin Daniel Cretton.
“You know Destin is such a special filmmaker and we're very happy to have him on the sequel. So, he'll be working on that and we're really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he's going to do a brilliant job," he said.
Something to look forward to: Liu’s “Shang-Chi” co-star Awkwafina similarly expressed confidence in what the director will bring to the highly anticipated sequel.

“If it does happen, I’m just really excited to see where Katy will go,” she told Screen Rant in Nov. “I think Destin is such an amazing filmmaker, working with him was incredible on the first ‘Shang-Chi.’ I really think that he might have something exciting, so I’m very excited for that.”
Cretton's future with Marvel: Cretton, who initially signed on to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” recently exited the project due to his busy schedule with multiple Marvel commitments. While his name remains attached to “Shang-Chi 2,” details about the film's production remain scarce. The sequel currently lacks a release date, writers and a start date, leading to speculation about its timeline and potential challenges in development.
