KOTA KINABALU, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The National Level Quran Recitation and Memorisation competition on Feb 16 to 21, to be hosted by Sabah, will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.
A total of 28 participants comprising 14 qari (male reciters) and 14 qariah (female reciters) from all states would showcase their skills in the competition, to be held for the fourth time in the state.
Minister at Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof said the theme for this year's edition is "Negara Rahmah Ummah Sejahtera", which is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Feb 16.
He said the closing and prize giving ceremony on Feb 21 would be performed by Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
The top qari and qariah would each bring home RM15,000, hajj trips, certificates, and other prizes.

"The event would also be broadcast live on RTM and TV Alhijrah as well as through radio, namely, National FM and IKIM FM," he said during the event’s pre-launch press conference here today.
He said the panel of judges would consist of 12 people for recitation event and 14 people for memorisation, chaired by Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Datuk Paimuzi Yahya.
The champion Qari and qariah would represent the country in the International Quran Recitation and Memorisation competition, scheduled on April 6-12 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Meanwhile Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who attended the pre-launch, said the organisation of the event in the state was not only significant in terms of Islamic related programmes, but also encouraged the culture of Quran reading.
According to him, SICC is equipped with a big convention hall and facilities, suitable for hosting national and international level events.
