Shots Fired Into Air From Vehicle That Was Surrounded by Portland Protesters

Shots were fired into the air from a car in Portland, Oregon, in the early hours of July 9 as the vehicle drove away from a group of protesters who had surrounded it.

Multiple witnesses at the scene described or recorded the car, a white Kia, driving around in what one said was an “erratic” manner.

This video, by Garrison Davis, shows the car driving near the city’s Justice Center, before it is eventually surrounded by protesters. As it drives off, a gun is seen being pointed into the air at the driver’s side, with several shots fired.

Davis, who has been documenting weeks of protest in Portland, said, “the car was swerving around a little behind the police, it seemed like it was trying to freak people out, not actually hit them.”

Davis called it a “very odd situation”. Encounters with “hostile drivers” have been pretty common, he said, “but pulling the gun is not a thing I see very much.” Credit: Garrison Davis via Storyful
