Shoppers flout safe distancing at Ramadan markets

Ahead of Islam's biggest festival Eid al-Fitr, many muslims in Bangladesh were rushing to buy new clothes and food to celebrate, with many crowding cheaper street markets this year due to the coronavirus pandemic hitting their wallets.

Almost all shoppers were wearing masks while security personnel were handing out masks to those without.

At the Banarasi Palli market, famous for traditionally selling women's saris, business was slow due to COVID-19. "Since last year we didn't have good sales. This year is also the same due to the coronavirus and the lockdown, we are in a bad situation," said shop owner, Mohammad Noor Azam.
