Just in time for the holidays, womenswear brand Altuzarra is branching out into the home realm with a small-decor capsule collection consisting of cozy wool pillows and blankets (with the option to monogram) and handwoven baskets. While the clothing company, founded by designer Joseph Altuzarra, is known for its eye-catching ready-to-wear, the Altuzarra Home Collection is decidedly neutral, enabling customers to add a cozy layer to virtually any room. “For me, like many people, my home is really my happy place,” Altuzarra said in a statement. “Home is where I recharge, relax, and feel most centered.”
Both social and environmental sustainability were top of mind for the new home line. The company produced each item in partnership with Peruvian and Mexican craftsmen working with natural materials. The textured blankets and pillows are handwoven with a fringe trim and produced in the Peruvian highlands. The two styles of baskets from the collection were handwoven from palm leaves in southern Mexico, using a traditional technique distinct to the region. “For each product, we worked with family-run companies that are committed to sustainability, the preservation of heritage craftsmanship, and providing fair wages to local artisans,” Altuzarra explained.
This isn’t the designer’s first venture into the home space: Last year, he unveiled a collab with Etsy. But the new line was an opportunity to further broaden the brand. “I’ve always been passionate about interiors and felt like it was the right time to start exploring what home decor would look like within Altuzarra’s luxurious craft-focused world,” the designer explained.
