A video has emerged of the shocking moment two men in London, UK, smash the windows of what was alleged to be their own shop over what was said to be a rent dispute. In a clip filmed on Monday 30 August, the pair can be seen hitting the windows of the Scooter Master shop on Edgeware Road, with mallets. A woman can be heard screaming in the background, as the alleged landlords manage to quickly destroy the glass. The police soon arrive at the scene and handcuff the duo, who are lead away from a neighbouring shop where the windows are still intact. According to police, three men were arrested "on suspicion of criminal damage" and remain in custody. A second clip then shows the business owner shouting at a crowd that has gathered after the perpetrators have been removed from the scene. The incident reportedly took place due to an argument over rent payments, however the business owner posted a clip on their own social media accounts disputing this. The footage was later shared on Twitter, where it has been viewed more than 60,000 times, with social media users baffled by the idea that the men would smash up their own shop. “Can you get arrested for smashing your own shop?," wrote one person. Another added: “Wait the owner who is renting out the space smashed his own property?” Someone else wrote: “Wtf would you smash your own shops windows though.” [sic] “Short term pain for long term gain. Well played man," added a fourth person. “Can't pay, they'll take the shop window away," wrote someone else. Jam Press contacted the Metropolitan Police for comment, with a representative saying: "Police were called to a premises in Edgware Road, W2, shortly before 17.45hrs on Monday, 30 August to reports of criminal damage. "Officers attended. Three men were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. They have been taken into custody."
