Eric Clapton appeared to have some fun in the sun during a family vacation in France.

The legendary British musician, 79, was seen in Calvi, a town on the northwest coast of Corsica, where he spent time sunbathing on the beach, took a dip in the ocean and relaxed on a boat.

In one photo, the Yardbirds guitarist wades into the sea, sporting blue swim trunks, black sunglasses, a gleaming watch and a silver cross around his neck.

In another image, Clapton wears a denim shirt over a gray T-shirt and trousers while standing on a boat. And in a third snap, he stands knee-deep in the water with two of his daughters.

Clapton is a father to five children: Ruth, Julie Rose, Ella May, Sophie Belle, and the late Conor, who died at the age of 4 in 1991.

The guitarist welcomed Ruth with Yvonne Kelly in 1985. He was still married to his first wife, Pattie Boyd, at the time, and Ruth’s identity was kept a secret from Boyd until after Conor’s death.

In the 2007 book, Clapton: The Autobiography, he is quoted praising his daughter for helping him cope with his grief over the loss of his son.

“Yvonne knew that [being close to Ruth] would help and it was true. I was able to hold a child again, and to be held by a child,” he said. Ruth has been a tremendous support. I had no idea how much power a child could have on an adult life, how much it can make you feel valid, unique and strong.”
