Every year, leading paint brand Sherwin-Williams announces a color of the year (or COTY, as it’s known in the interiors biz) based on its annual Colormix Forecast. And the color that will define the year ahead? A sophisticated gray-green hue called Evergreen Fog SW 9130.

The tint, which Sherwin-Williams describes as a “nostalgic mid-tone,” is a switch-up from past years’ more neutral tone (see last year’s Urbane Bronze) or bold, jewel-toned (like 2018’s Oceanside) COTYs. The sage-tinged Evergreen Fog not only feels soothing after the tumult of the past 18 months but also leans into a larger green color trend that is slowly but surely gaining momentum.

“Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade,” Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, said in a company announcement. “Evergreen Fog inspires us to begin again and is a great choice for modern interiors and exteriors.”

Wadden pointed to the color’s versatility in terms of both spaces and tastes, and suggests pairing it with nature-inspired textiles or gleaming metallic accents. “The familiar, comfortable nature of Evergreen Fog shines as a reassuring backdrop and freshens up any space,” she noted.
