Coldplay fans in Munich got quite the surprise this week.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, Shawn Mendes made a surprise appearance during the rock group's performance at the Olympiastadion during the first night of their three-night run.

The "In My Blood" singer, 26, joined Coldplay onstage for a captivating performance of the band's 2005 hit "Fix You."

In fan-captured video of the collaboration, Chris Martin can be seen running on the stage and embracing Mendes. While the "Lost in Japan" artist plays guitar and sings at the mic, the Coldplay bandleader, 47, sings next to Mendes before sitting down at the piano.

"Sing it loud," the "Treat You Better" hitmaker tells the audience before harmonizing with Martin and holding his hand to his chest.

Mendes' appearance with Coldplay comes more than a week after the Canadian singer-songwriter dropped his new single, "Why Why Why," alongside its music video and a second song, "Isn't That Enough," both from his upcoming fifth album, Shawn, due Oct. 18.

"Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" are Mendes' first solo songs since his 2023 charity single "What the Hell Are We Dying For?" He released his last album in 2020 with Wonder.

Earlier this month, Mendes announced his upcoming fifth album, Shawn (due Oct. 18) unveiling its album cover on social media alongside a video trailer and heartfelt note about the making of the project.

"Music really can be medicine," he said. "2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift."

He added, "Honestly thank God for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you through makes it so much better. I have no idea how I would have made it through the last couple years let alone make an album without you."

In support of the upcoming album, Mendes is set to currently performing a series of intimate concerts throughout the United States and United Kingdom through Oct. 24.

Meanwhile, Coldplay shared the tracklist for their new album Moon Music in an Instagram Reel on Friday, Aug. 16.

In the clip, the band's frontman can be seen writing out the track names on the back of what appears to be an album sleeve in Sharpie. The video features a snippet of one of the songs, "We Pray," in the background.

Coldplay dropped their last album, 2021’s Music of the Spheres, nearly three years ago.

Moon Music is due Oct. 4
