Severe Storms Leave Six Dead in Alabama

Severe storms hit Alabama on Thursday, January 12, killing at least six people, according to Governor Kay Ivey.

Ivey declared a state of emergency for some of the worst-hit counties, including Autauga, Chambers, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore and Tallapoosa.

This footage from Twitter user @BamaBoxWX shows a rotating funnel cloud with multiple vortexes seen from a highway just north of Prattville, Alabama.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said a “large and extremely dangerous tornado” tore through nearby Selma on Thursday.

The NWS also stated it was tracking reports of tornadoes and surveying damage across the region on Thursday evening.
