Severe Morning Thunderstorms Barrel Across Houston Metro Region

High winds, heavy rain, hail, and lightning tore through the Houston metropolitan area early Wednesday morning, causing flash flooding and damage, local media reports said.

The slow-moving storm system stretched along southeastern Texas, affecting Galveston, Columbus, and College Station. The powerful winds downed trees and overturned a tractor-trailer.

More than 120,000 customers were without power by 8 am in the Houston area, CenterPoint Energy said. The National Weather Service (NWS) warned residents near the coast of potential life-threatening conditions and rough seas.
