Catastrophic flooding in Germany killed more than 160 people and caused devastating damage to towns and cities across the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North-Rhine Westphalia, footage shows.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday visited the village of Schuld in Rhineland-Palatinate, where she described the scene as “surreal," according to reports. “I would almost say that the German language is struggling to find the words to describe the devastation that has been caused," she said.
