It's Okay Not To Be Okay actress Seo Ye-ji has finally issued a formal apology over her controversial relationship with ex-boyfriend Kim Jung-hyun, which created waves in the South Korean entertainment industry almost a year ago.

In a statement, the actress opened up about her personal life and apologised, “Hello, this is Seo Ye-ji. First, I sincerely apologise for the fact that I’m conveying my feelings so late through these written words.”

Seo’s reaction to allegations against her came almost 10 months after Dispatch uncovered and reported acrimonious text messages between the actress and her then-boyfriend Kim Jung-hyun.

The reports accused Seo of making Kim request changes in the script of his 2018 drama, Time, which also starred Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun.

Reportedly, Seo warned him against having any physical contact between him and his female co-star while filming the show.

The Dispatch report included text messages that were alleged to be between the celebrity couple, in which Seo forbade Kim from making any “skinship” or physical contact with anyone, especially with his co-star, Seohyun. It also claimed that a total of 13 scenes were changed in the series.

Although Seo Ye-ji’s agency Gold Medalist responded to the report with an official statement, saying that the controversy surrounding Kim on the set of Time did not occur because of Seo.

The actress herself did not personally address the controversy at the time, while withdrawing from projects like the OCN drama Island.

On 27 February, Seo released a formal apology regarding the controversy, more than 10 months after the Dispatch report was first published.

Her full statement is as follows:

"Hello, this is Seo Ye Ji. First, I sincerely apologise for the fact that I’m conveying my feelings so late through these written words. Seeing all of the reproach and the many things that have been said about me, I have been taking time to reflect on myself up until now. I would like to sincerely apologise for making many people uncomfortable due to my shortcomings. Once again, I sincerely bow my head and apologise for the fact that I have disappointed you greatly. All of this stemmed from my immaturity, and I will work hard to behave more carefully in the future and show you a more mature version of myself."

After going on hiatus for almost a full year, Seo is currently preparing to return to the small screen in the upcoming tvN drama Eve.
