As you may already know, Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald said "I do" to husband Romain Bonnet long before her lavish season two wedding. Recently obtained court documents showed that the couple legally tied the knot in March 2018— not October 2019 as the show’s narrative led fans to believe.
On Thursday, Fitzgerald set the record straight about her wedding and the show during an Access All Area radio interview with Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng."Our wedding was absolutely real," she told the men straight off the bat. "We invited all of our friends and family," noting that her 2018 courthouse wedding was private and nobody was invited. "We just signed the paper for personal reasons and then we wanted to wait until we could have our real wedding."
For Fitzgerald, who was previously married twice, having a ceremony wasn't her top priority. Bonnet, who was in his early 20s at the time, agreed. "Romain’s never been married before. A wedding didn’t mean that much to me," she said.
In fact, she mentioned that after obtaining the license, she pitched the idea of a group beach trip to Bali instead of an actual wedding: "No cameras, no anything, just our closest friends." However, her friends were unable to go at the time due to major life changes, so she and Bonnet decided to hold off on doing anything special to honor their commitment to one another until the moment felt right. As it turned out, did end up being official ceremony which ended up being featured on the series; however, it appears that was never their original plan.
In terms of rumors that the show was a hoax, Fitzgerald was unbothered.“It’s not that big of a deal. They’re like, ‘the show’s fake, this is all fake’. We’re like, what are you talking about? You see all of our family! How can you fake that?"
The real-estate-agent-turned-reality-star makes it clear that the ceremony shown on Selling Sunset was their one and only wedding. "People sign a certificate all the time before they do their actual wedding," she added.
