“Selling the OC”'s Alex Hall Claims Tyler Stanaland 'Emotionally Shut Down' After Hot Tub Kiss: 'He Left Me High and Dry'
In the Netflix series' season 3 premiere, both Hall and Stanaland share their sides of what followed the steamy moment
Warning: This post contains spoilers from season 3 of Selling the OC.
Alex Hall and Tyler Stanaland ended last season of Selling the OC by kissing in a hot tub — and in the season 3 premiere, the pair share their respective takes on the steamy moment.
Hall gives her account of what transpired at costar Polly Brindle’s party, telling Brindle, “That night on your birthday, I saw him in a whole different light. He literally grabbed me by the back of the neck. I was like ‘Just take what you want.’”
“I’ve never seen that side of him,” she continues. “He totally swooned me, he melted me.”
However, Hall says things cooled off when Stanaland “escaped off to a world tour” afterward.
“Tyler laid it all out on the table and a week later he kind of just emotionally shut down and went off to Fiji and Australia and we didn’t really talk,” she explains. “It made me feel like he regretted what he said, but part of me thinks that Tyler is absolutely marriage material.”
“Everybody says friends make the best relationships and I was willing to explore that,” she adds. “It was just weird how he left me high and dry.”
The two real estate agents have navigated their close friendship on the Netflix series following Stanaland’s divorce from Pitch Perfect star Brittany Snow. Stanaland and Snow tied the knot in March 2020 and separated in September 2022, finalizing their divorce the following June.
While he and Hall were coworkers at the Oppenheim Group’s Orange County office, Stanaland announced he was leaving in October to work alongside his dad John Stanaland at Douglas Elliman.
During the same episode, Stanaland also reflected on their relationship in a conversation with Austin Victoria.
“We kept each other in the friend zone for so long and everybody was convinced we were dating,” says Stanaland. “So that is what opened up our conversation. ‘Is there something more here?’ And then we’re hanging out and we ended up making out at Polly’s party.”
“I think I took her by surprise and I took myself by surprise by telling her these things that I had been thinking about,” he adds. “But we’re not a thing.”
“I think it’s a little confusing where Hall and I stand at the moment,” Stanaland goes on. “In a perfect world, I would love to jump into a relationship with Hall. I want to get married, I want to have kids, I want a house and puppies and all the things, you know. I just think at this point in my life, dating in your 30s is weird. Dating post divorce is weird. I’m just kind of trying to take it one step at a time, and see where the cards fall.”
Hall revealed that she and Stanaland were no longer in contact when the Selling the OC cast made a special cameo at the Selling Sunset season 7 reunion in November.
“I’m actually blocked on Instagram. I’m excommunicated,” she revealed. “Polly actually told me.”

Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of season 3's May 3 release, Hall confirmed that she and Stanaland still aren't on speaking terms.
"I've accepted it at this point," she said. "In the beginning, it was kind of confusing, and 'What's going on?' And then there were some revelations that surfaced right after we finished filming season 3, and so it gave me a lot more clarity and understanding of why he was behaving certain ways."
"And I was really able to have closure because I could wrap my head around it," she added.
