Selena Gomez isn’t holding back when it comes to putting body shamers in their place. While the former Disney star is no stranger to toxic public discourse about her body, she took to social media to directly address recent comments about her appearance at the October 29 Emilia Pérez premiere in Los Angeles. While slamming TikTok bullies in the comments section, Gomez also got vulnerable as she opened up about some of her health issues publicly for the first time.

“This makes me sick,” the singer commented on a since-deleted TikTok video, where some users were speculating that Gomez–who wore a stunning ruched black dress on the Emilia Pérez red carpet–was purposefully trying to hide her body by holding her hand over her stomach.

The multi-hyphenate revealed that she had a digestive health issue, adding, “I have SEBO [sic] in my small intestine. It flares up.” According to the Mayo Clinic, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth occurs when there’s too much bacteria in the small intestine, leading to symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss, and malnutrition.

Gomez, who has been open about her health issues in the past, including her battle with Lupus, concluded her comment by letting body shamers know that she was unbothered by their criticism. “I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure,” she added. “I don’t have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”

This is not the first time the “Love On” singer has promoted body acceptance in response to negative comments. Gomez, who previously opened up about water retention from her Lupus medication, said in an April 2022 TikTok Stories video that she no longer lets speculation about her body and weight get to her.

"Honestly, I don't care about my weight because people bitch about it anyway. 'You're too small,' 'You're too big,' 'That doesn't fit.' 'Meh meh meh meh,’” she said in the candid video. "Bitch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye."
