Selangor MB sends condolences to victims of Batang Kali landslide, will visit with PM Anwar tonight

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today expressed his condolences to the victims and their families of the fatal landslide in Batang Kali.

The landslide has claimed 16 lives, including children, as of 1pm, the Ministry of Development and Government posted on its Twitter account.

It added that 61 people have been rescued and are safe out of 94 victims and searchers are still looking for 17 people.

Amiruddin said he had been informed that the dead included three children as at 12 noon.

Amirudin also said he will be accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to visit the landslide site this evening.

“I will go down to the scene of the incident tonight with YAB Prime Minister and ask for prayers from all the people that the search and rescue team is protected by Allah SWT so that every victim who has not been found can be saved,” he said.

The Selagor MB noted that the victims were said to have been camping at Kampung Kuantan in Batang Kali. He added that the earth in the area fell from a height of 30 metres and that the landslide affected three acres.
