Selangor exco line-up 2023: Who’s in charge of what

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — Second-term Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the portfolios of his new 11-member state government today, taking charge of five of them for himself.

The 43-year-old PKR politician is in charge of land and natural resources; finance and economy; modernising and digitising government; strategic communications; and lastly education and human capital development.

Amirudin made the announcement after chairing the first meeting of the Selangor government for the 15th term at the foyer of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here this morning.

Three state executive councillors are returnees, like Amirudin.

DAP's Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, holding the position of the executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility, will oversee three key areas: investment and trade, small and medium enterprise development, and the creation of a new economic district, as well as Selangor Mobility.

Parti Amanah Negara's Pandan Indah assemblyman Izham Hashim, who serves as the executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture, is responsible for infrastructure development, agriculture, and modernization of plantations.

Tanjong Sepat assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah from PKR, in his role as the executive councillor for housing and culture, will handle housing and the development of sustainable cities, along with culture, heritage, and Malay customs.

The remaining seven are new faces to represent the unity government, including Umno’s Sungai Tawar assemblyman Rizam Ismail who is serving as the executive councillor for rural development and unity, will handle rural and village development, traditional village sustainability, and national unity.

Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim from DAP is serving as the executive councillor for local government and tourism, will oversee local government affairs, tourism, and the development of new villages.

DAP's Banting assemblyman Papparaidu Veraman, the exco for human resources and poverty eradication, will manage human resources, poverty eradication, indigenous affairs, and minority affairs.

PKR's Seri Setia assemblyman Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, the executive councillor for Islamic Affairs and innovation, will take charge of Islamic affairs, the halal industry, digital infrastructure, and science, technology, and innovation.

Amanah's Taman Templer assemblyman Anfaal Saari, overseeing women empowerment and welfare, will be responsible for women and family empowerment, social welfare, and the care economy.

The youth, sports, and entrepreneurship committee will be headed by PKR's Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi, who will manage youth and sports development, entrepreneurship empowerment, creative economy, and disaster management.

DAP's Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, responsible for public health and the environment, will oversee public health, environment, climate change, and green technology.

Additionally, Sze Han, Suee Lim, and Papparaidu will jointly chair the special committee for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism.

Amiruddin expressed confidence that the seven new faces have sufficient experience and skills to continue the state government’s work.

He pointed out that though it was their first time in the exco, they had prior rexperience in the state assembly or related government roles, making them well-suited for their specific responsibilities.

“Although most of them are new as exco but not new as members of the state assembly.

“Najwan and Jamaliah have been involved in the Selangor state assembly. Papparaidu works in the exco office. Fahmina is the chief executive officer and is also responsible for managing the state. Suee Lim is new as an executive councillor but he is the most senior member of the state assembly here, having served five consecutive terms.

“Meanwhile, Rizam is a former Opposition member who was involved in the international trade and industry ministry and in the office of the finance ministry before,” said Amiruddin.
