Sometimes it’s what on the inside that really counts.
Lighthouses are some of the most photogenic landmarks around, and vacationers flock in droves to see these stalwart towers that help protect those at sea from running into land. And while lighthouses are adored for their outer beauty, the insides were really just meant to be seen by the keepers and caretakers who would climb their twisty stair cases to the top. But that doesn't mean these interiors are dull. Some of these structures have such mesmerizing patterns that sequence-loving mathematician Fibonnacci himself would be thrilled to look upon them.
Many lighthouses will let you climb inside to see the amazing view from the top (though a lot are currently closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic). But in case you're not able to visit in person and scale the steps (America’s tallest brick lighthouse Cape Hatteras has 257 steps), we’ve found some truly incredible pics from the insides of lighthouse that will leave you in awe.
