Security and police powers beefed up for King’s coronation
Security arrangements around the King’s coronation have been thrown into the spotlight after a man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening. He was detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. Ten thousand military personnel and 11,500 police officers will be deployed to keep people safe during the coronation on Saturday. On Wednesday the government brought new laws into effect to curb protests, and the Metropolitan Police have said they will have a “very low tolerance level” for anyone who might disrupt the coronation.
