Footage broadcast live on Facebook from protests in Seattle on Wednesday evening, September 23, shows a police officer pushing his bike over a protester’s head as he lay on the ground.
The moment was captured on video by CJ Halliburton, who regularly livestreams from protests. The incident took place on East Pine Street in downtown Seattle.
Seattle Police said 13 people were arrested in Seattle on Wednesday evening. The protest was declared an unlawful assembly by police just after midnight. In a tweet, the police said “multiple fires have been set, explosives have been thrown at officers, and [there has been] property damage in the surrounding area.”
KIRO7 reported that several officers were hurt, including one who was struck in the head with a baseball bat, cracking his helmet.
Protests took place in Seattle and across the US in the wake of a grand jury decision in Kentucky on prosecutions in the police shooting of Louisville woman Breonna Taylor. A former officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with wanton endangerment. Two other officers who discharged their weapons during a botched raid on Taylor’s apartment were not charged.
