Search for 47 missing at China coal mine resumes

STORY: Footage on CCTV showed heavy machinery and rescue dogs being used in the search for the 47 miners still missing. The death toll from the dramatic collapse on Wednesday (February 22) has risen to at least six people.

The mine, operated by small local firm Xinjing Coal Mining Co, collapsed in an avalanche of rock, leaving workers buried under a pile of debris.

The region ordered inspections at all of its open-pit mines on Friday. Around half of Inner Mongolia's coal mines are open-pit operations. It was unclear if the mines will continue operating during the safety inspections.
