Sean Dyche predicts winner of Arsenal, Man City title race as boss explains how Everton can ‘learn’ from top teams
Sean Dyche has suggested which team will win the Premier League title between Arsenal and Manchester City after Everton were beaten 4-0 by the Gunners on Wednesday night.
Everton did extremely well to win 1-0 at home against Arsenal during Dyche’s first game in charge. However, there was to be no repeat at the Emirates as Gabriel Martinelli bagged a brace to help Arsenal sweep Everton aside and get their revenge on Dyche’s men.
Arsenal took the lead in the 40th minute when Oleksandr Zinchenko played in Bukayo Saka, who fired into the roof of the net to give Jordan Pickford no chance.
And Martinelli made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time. Idrissa Gueye took an age to decide on his pass, allowing Saka to steal and send Martinelli through. He showed composure to finish past Pickford, with the goal passing the subsequent VAR check for offside.
Arsenal made it 3-0 in the 71st minute. Leandro Trossard raced down the left before pulling it back to Martin Odegaard. Mikel Arteta’s captain managed to squeeze the ball home, past Everton defenders James Tarkowski and Vitaliy Mykolenko.
Martinelli rounded off the victory with 10 minutes of normal time left by finishing from close range after some nice work by Zinchenko and Eddie Nketiah.

The result saw Arsenal go five points clear of City at the top of the table. Everton, meanwhile, sit in the relegation zone in 18th spot. They are one point off safety, although the two sides above them – Leeds and West Ham – both have an extra game to play.
Following Arsenal’s convincing win over Everton, Dyche spoke highly about Arteta’s side. He suggested they will beat City to the Prem crown. The manager also explained how Everton must emulate the top two sides in the division.
Arsenal showing title credentials, explains Dyche
“They played well in the first period but they couldn’t break us down. That was pleasing for us, lots of teams have to do that at places like this, we know that,” Dyche told Premier League Productions (via Metro).
“Second half they showed what a side they are.
“I said to my players, ‘what you’ve got to remember is it’s not just about their ability’. At the end they’re closing down, they’re pressing, they save one off the line because they’re throwing bodies at it.
“That’s what wins titles. That’s the feeling of a group that wins titles.
“I’m not saying they’ve won it by any means, Man City are fantastic but you look at their [Arsenal’s] work ethic.
“They knew because they came to Goodison, we put in a real shift and gathered a way of playing to protect a lead as well and seeing the game through, they [Arsenal] responded.
“That’s what I said to the players, ‘the top teams learn, now it’s about us learning’.”
Arteta will be delighted to hear a fellow manager sing the praises of his team like this. It shows just how far they have come in recent years, as other sides now hope to imitate them.
Arsenal can make it four wins in a row when they host Bournemouth at the Emirates on Saturday. Everton, meanwhile, will face Nottingham Forest away from home on Sunday.
Elsewhere, a player heavily linked with Arsenal has reportedly snubbed Manchester United and is now gearing up for a move to Germany.
