SINGAPORE — Singapore's Lucas Teo won his second SEA Games canoeing gold of his career - seven years after his first - as he came in first in the men's kayak single (K1) 1,000m final on Wednesday (18 May).

The 31-year-old was fastest among six competitors with a time of 3min 51.501sec to claim the gold medal at the Thuy Nguyen Hai Phong Aquatics Center.

Indonesia's Maizir Riyondra was second in 3:56.446, while Thailand's Methasit Sitthipharat was third in 3:58.278.

Teo had won Singapore's first-ever canoeing gold medal when he won in the same event at the 2015 Games on home soil. He had also won a silver in the same race as well as a bronze in the men's K4 1,000m sprint event at the 2011 Games in Indonesia.

The sport was dropped for the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Games, while Teo did not participate in the 2019 edition.

Gold at last for shooter Teh Xiu Hong

At the Hanoi National Sport Training Center, shooter Teh Xiu Hong finally won her first SEA Games gold after making her debut in 2015, as she emerged triumphant in the women's 25m pistol final.

The 28-year-old narrowly defeated Malaysia's Alia Sazana Azahari 34-33 in the last round of the final to earn the gold medal. Before this Games, Teh had won three silvers and one bronze in the pistol events.

Her gold medal also ended a gold-medal drought for Singapore shooters at the Games. In the 2019 edition in the Philippines, they won one silver and four bronzes, but failed to win a gold for the first time since 1991.

In the mixed 10m air rifle final, Singapore's Fernel Tan and Gai Tianru got the silver medal after losing 10-16 to Indonesia's Resti Citra Dewi and Fathur Gustafian.
