Scottish Engineering Marvel Shown in Action in Drone Timelapse

Hyperlapse footage captured Scotland’s famed Falkirk Wheel – the world’s only rotating boat lift – in action.

David Wilkinson, a videographer and drone operator, uploaded the video on August 29, showing the engineering marvel and tourist attraction. In the video, two boats use the lift, which connects two separate canals with a height difference of about 115 feet. A version of the video he uploaded to his TikTok account, has been viewed more than 3 million times.

According to the Scottish Canals website, the rotating lift “links the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal 35 meters above.” Their website explains that the wheel, which opened in 2002, provides transit between the two waterways in just a few minutes, and “only uses 1.5 kWh of energy to turn, the same amount as it would take to boil 8 household kettles.” Credit: David Wilkinson via Storyful
