Scientex and BYD Sime Darby Beyond Auto to drive affordable sustainability in property development and mobility solutions
Selangor, Malaysia, 2 August 2023 – Scientex Berhad (Scientex, 森德公司, Bloomberg: SCI MK), through its subsidiary Scientex Park (M) Sdn Bhd has joined forces with Sime Darby Beyond Auto Sdn Bhd (Sime Darby Beyond Auto), a subsidiary of Sime Darby Motors, to drive affordable sustainability in property development and mobility solutions for a greener future.
The collaboration aims to accelerate Malaysia’s sustainability agenda by bringing greater affordability to sustainably-built homes and electric vehicles (EV). Both companies are committed to creating positive impact on the nation’s journey towards an environmentally responsible future.
Scientex plans to establish EV charging stations at selected locations nationwide, leveraging its presence in affordable housing townships. This initiative aims to embed sustainable elements in its affordable developments while supporting greater EV adoption among the masses, accelerating the transition to a sustainable lifestyle.
Scientex is a leading property developer in Malaysia, committed to delivering 50,000 affordable homes by 2028 across 30 townships nationwide, and integrating UN Sustainable Development Goals into its planning. Scientex is also a constituent of the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index.
Sime Darby Beyond Auto is a key player in driving EV adoption in Malaysia and is the sole distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia. BYD has established itself as the country’s fastest- growing automotive brand with over 2,000 EVs already delivered nationwide. Globally, BYD has achieved a total sales volume of 1.8 million vehicles in 2022, solidifying its position as the world’s foremost EV car manufacturer.
To inspire the public towards sustainable choices, Scientex and Sime Darby Beyond Auto will jointly create awareness and promote accessibility of greener homes and EVs to the widest possible buyer segments, as well as address the challenge of prohibitive EV market offerings for many median-income families. This shared goal will be achieved through educational and marketing campaigns, including promotional activities and incentives.
The collaboration took a significant step forward with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Scientex and Sime Darby Beyond Auto to be preferred marketing campaign partners in conjunction with the launch of Scientex’s highly anticipated Mori Residences 2 condominium project in Rawang, Selangor. Showcasing Scientex’s commitment to promoting sustainability and mobility, the development adopts GreenRE principles, featuring environmentally responsible design and EV charging station.
