Scaffolding Collapses At DASH Highway Construction Site, One Worker Dies
A metal scaffolding at the construction site of Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) had collapsed on Saturday (19 June) evening, injuring two Bangladeshi construction workers, of which one has passed away on 20 June.
The highway construction site was located above the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) in Kota Damansara, reported Bernama.
Norazam Khamis, Chief of Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said the victims, who were in their 20s and 40s, were on duty under the 12-metre high concrete structure when the incident occurred at 7pm.
“A construction worker was slightly hurt while another was seriously injured on the waist after being hit by a chunk of rubble. They were sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment,” he said as quoted by Bernama.
Meanwhile, Projek Lintasan Damansara-Shah Alam Sdn Bhd, the developer of the DASH highway, said the incident did not involve road users since it occurred at a closed location within the construction site.
“The response team from DASH were at the scene of the incident to control the traffic and move the metal reinforcements,” it said, adding that a stop-work order was issued immediately.
The firm said the developer as well as the main contractor for the project would fully cooperate in the authorities’ investigation.
According to a New Straits Times (NST) report, one of the two construction workers who suffered injuries after the scaffolding collapsed died on 20 June.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said it received a report regarding the victim’s death at about 4pm.
“I understand that the victim was in critical condition when he was sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment. The victim was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at the hospital at 4pm.
“The autopsy results performed on the victim found that he died due to multiple trauma and dysfunction of multiple organs due to a heart attack,” he said as quoted by NST.
