Saudi Government Releases Plan for First 'Linear City' on Western Coast

Saudi Arabia’s crown prince unveiled a prospective plan for “The Line,” a planned urban development in Neom, a city currently planned in the kingdom’s northwest desert.

Video released by Saudi Press Agency on July 25 shows a vision for the city, which Mohammed bin Salman says is planned to address issues with traditional contemporary urban living, according to the Arab News.

The Line would be part of a larger project called Neom, currently under construction in Tabuk Province.

Pitched as revolutionary, The Line is planned to house 9 million people in a space of 34 square kilometers, stretched along 170 km, and feature “smart services” such as drone delivery. According to the video, it will also not produce carbon emissions, running on renewable energy. These details have not been independently verified. Credit: Saudi Press Agency via Storyful
