“Saturday Night Live” alum Pete Davidson breaks character with pal John Mulaney in latest musical sketch

The sketch also stars Andy Samberg as the bear carcass that RFK Jr. dumped in Central Park.

John Mulaney and Pete Davidson have re-teamed up for their latest musical-inspired Saturday Night Live sketch — and it’s just as strange as all the others.

From the minds that brought us “Diner Lobster,” “Bodega Bathroom,” “Airport Sushi,” and “Subway Churro,” comes yet another SNL sketch filled with showtunes: Port Authority Duane Reade.

This time around, the bizarre storyline begins when two customers (Davidson and Andrew Dismukes) dare to ask the front counter cashier (Mulaney) to hand over a gallon of milk before boarding their bus back to Boston.

"I'm sorry,"  Mulaney replied. "You mean the gallon of milk surrounded by cans of twisted iced tea in the fridge that's hotter than the rest of the store?"

"What's the big deal?" Davidson answered. "Milk is milk, right?" This kicks off the surreal Broadway musical medley that reinforces what a terrible decision they have stumbled into.

To start, Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim sing a Lion King parody revealing that the carton is filled with possum milk. Then, a shampoo bottle played by Marcello Hernandez screams about being locked up via a Sound of Music spoof. And that’s just the beginning.

Bowen Yang then hobbles off a Greyhound to portray a twisted bus driver singing a Les Miserables parody. He just so happens to be carting along some very precious cargo: or, as Mulaney puts it, “all the twinks arriving for the Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest.Chloe Fineman leads the curly-haired impersonators through a spirited rendition of Cabaret’s “Willkommen,” before Devon Walker spoofs New York City mayor Eric Adams’ associations with Turkey to the tune of Aladdin’s “Prince Ali.”

Another guest star emerges when Andy Samberg pops in as the dead bear cub that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently admitted to dumping in Central Park. Naturally, he introduces himself to the tune of Hamilton’s opening number,  “Alexander Hamilton.” The cast then bands together for a performance of “We Go Together” from Grease — but not before Mulaney and Davidson lampshade their longtime friendship by breaking character to refer to one another by name.

"Here you go, Pete, here’s your bus milk,” Mulaney said, handing over the gallon.

"Thanks, John,” Davidson replied. The crowd immediately erupted into laughter while Dismukes looked between the two in confusion.

Along with being Mulaney’s sixth time hosting SNL, the latest episode marks Davidson’s first return to the show since October 2023, when he served as the host of the s eason 49 premiere. The comedian, who was an SNL cast member from 2014 to 2022, released his second Netflix special, Turbo Fonzarelli in January. After wrapping up a stand-up tour that included over 200 live appearances, Davidson checked into a wellness facility for mental health treatment, and has since kept a low profile.
