A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellite spotted smoke from wildfires in New Mexico and a dust storm in parts of Colorado and Kansas heading toward each other, imagery from April 29 shows.

NOAA’s GOES East satellite captured the two events while making its way over the US west on April 29.

The combined Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire spanned 120,653 acres (about 188 square miles), mostly in the Santa Fe National Forest, and was at 20 percent containment as of May 2, fire officials reported.
