Satellite Images Show Powerful Storm Hitting California

A satellite captured images of the powerful atmospheric river that rained down on California, on Friday, March 10, according to the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), which released an animation based on the images.

The storm, which started Thursday evening, brought heavy rain and snow to the state, causing flooding and traffic disruptions.

The video shows the storm’s movements over March 10, said CIRA, which operates in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Credit: CIRA/NOAA via Storyful
