Satellite Images Show Blockades, Fires in Islamabad and Peshawar Following Khan Arrest
Satellite imagery from May 10 shows increased security measures in Islamabad and fires burning in Peshawar, a day after the arrest of Pakistan’s former prime minister and head of the PTI party Imran Khan.
Images collected by Maxar on May 10 show shipping container barricades around the National Assembly of Pakistan in the capital Islamabad as well as near police headquarters, where Khan is reportedly being held.
In Peshawar, images show protesters assembled along the highway and at the Radio Pakistan building. Thick smoke can be seen rising from a fire near the Radio Pakistan building.
Demonstrators have been calling for the release of Khan and blocked the Srinigar Highway near Islamabad’s Police Lines Headquarters.
Police responded to protesters by firing tear gas and rubber bullets, according to local media
The PTI accused police of opening fire and injuring unarmed protesters on the highway, but Storyful could not independently confirm those allegations. Credit: Maxar via Storyful
