Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali has revealed that West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca had an offer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Scamacca joined the Hammers for over £30million in the recently closed transfer window.

He is yet to score in the Premier League in four appearances.

In fairness, the Italian striker has only started once in the top flight so far, so there is no point in looking too much into that.

Scamacca has scored two in two in the Conference League and will likely start in that competition while Michail Antonio is favoured by David Moyes in the league.

West Ham face Chelsea on Saturday and it is unclear whether or not Scamacca will be fit after he missed Wednesday’s draw at home to Tottenham.

He was linked with several teams in the summer window, such as Arsenal and PSG, but he opted to join the Irons.

And Carnaveli has revealed PSG did in fact have an interest.

“Inter [Milan] asked us, but I’m talking about last season,” the Sassuolo chief executive told Tuttomercatoweb.

“In this market session there was no request from Italian clubs. Maybe because they knew about our financial demands: we always said he would go to a foreign team.

“In addition to West Ham, there was an important interest from Paris Saint-Germain. But we wanted to keep our word, and also the boy is convinced that on a professional level he can have the opportunity to grow even more.”

West Ham reportedly tried to sign Jan Bednarek on loan on deadline day, but the Polish centre-half joined Aston Villa from Southampton.

Bednarek has hinted that the rumours were true, by telling The Independent he had the opportunity “to choose between two Premier League teams”.

“It was an emotional day. One minute I am going to West Ham, another minute Villa,” the 26-year-old said.

“There were a lot of conversations with Southampton and all the managers.

“I ended up at Villa and I’m really happy with the decision. It was a good decision. It wasn’t easy because, if you have another option, you have to take the decision like an adult. This is real life.

“It was a tough problem but a good problem. I’m really happy I have these issues in my life, that I have to choose between two Premier League teams.”
