Sarah Jessica Parker is 'weepy' but 'proud' ahead of son James' high school graduation
In words that will chime with many parents of teenagers about to fly the nest, Sarah Jessica Parker has shared her many feelings as her eldest child prepares to leave school.
The actress, 56, admitted she was "weepy" but "proud" ahead of 18-year-old son James' high school graduation.
Sharing to Instagram a picture of him taken from behind – in what appears to be a New York street – she wrote: "Into the sunset of his High School career. Field day. The period at the end of a long sentence. And all the sunrises and sunsets in his future.
"It's a milestone. Not fully understood til it's on your doorstep. And til they cross the threshold into their next mostly mysterious chapter.
"Just like all the other chapters that are part of the epic novel that is the story of child and parent."
The Sex And The City star finished: "We, all of us Parker-Brodericks are proud, weepy and so looking forward to celebrating your coming graduation."
As well as James, the Hollywood favourite – who is best known for playing the iconic role of Carrie Bradshaw – shares 11-year-old twin daughters Tabitha and Marion with husband, fellow actor Matthew Broderick.
Her post was well-received by fans who left more than 126,000 'likes' with many praising her moving words.
These include actress Reese Witherspoon – also a mother-of-three – who wrote: "Beautifully said. This one hit deep."
Meanwhile, a fan commented: "Isn't it the weirdest feeling no one can prepare you for? Happy, sad, melancholic, thrilled.
"Our 17-year-old son is also at this stage. Spread your wings! But I also really want him to stay with me forever."
And another follower shared: "We raise them to leave us and simultaneously mourn and celebrate their flight. But, if we've done our jobs correctly, they not only remember the way home, but make the journey home willingly."
