Santa Barbara ‘Lake Fire’ Now At 34,000 Acres Burned, Michael Jackson’s ‘Neverland Ranch’ Spared

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office issued new evacuation orders and warnings today for the Lake Fire, which has grown to more than 34,000 acres overnight and remains at 16 percent containment.

The new evacuation zones can be viewed on the county’s evacuation map.

Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch was among the structures initially threatened. TMZ reports firefighters were able to beat back the flames with a beefed-up presence.

A damage assessment is currently underway on the sprawling property. TMZ reported that no major damage is apparent.

Businessman Ron Burkle purchased Neverland in 2020 for $22 million.

Approximately 2,166 people have been either warned or ordered to evacuate because of the fire, which began on July 5. It is currently the largest wildfire burning in California.

The American Red Cross said that anyone who needs shelter assistance from the fire can call the Red Cross at (805) 678-3073.

The fire grew another 5,000 acres overnight following a day of firefighters battling the blaze. There are now 3,034 personnel assigned to the fire, including 221 engines, 77 dozers, 46 water tenders, and 73 crews. Air support has more than doubled since Wednesday, jumping from 11 helicopters to 28.’

Four firefighters have been injured in the fire, none life-threatening. Six structures have been damaged by the blaze, including an outbuilding on forest land and some recreational residences.
