PUTRAJAYA, March 29 — The coalition government headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has no issues with Barisan Nasional (BN) using its own logo in the upcoming state elections, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said today.

The PKR secretary-general said this is a non-issue as BN has its own component parties to look after, just like ally Pakatan Harapan (PH), and informal discussions on the matter have already taken place when they were negotiating for seat allocations.

“When our unity governments seat negotiation committee met with the coalition members, we decided on the seat allocation for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN). It wasn’t just one meeting but a series of meetings.

“We agreed on certain parameters for seat aggregation and that’s already decided. We consist of five different coalitions, BN also have component parties, four of them and each one of them has its own logo. So to face the state elections using their own logo is within their domain,” the home minister told the media in an engagement session at the ministry here.

Saifuddin said during these discussions, both PH and BN also reviewed how voters would perceive the matter.

“When it comes to this, we must always remember that we are a coalition of two different parties,” he added,

Yesterday, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that party candidates will use the “dacing” symbol for the elections in six states. The deputy prime minister said the other parties in the coalition government would be using their own symbols for their candidates.

The state elections will be held in six states sometime in the middle of 2023.
