The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards may not be a big deal in the UK, but the ceremony remains a key date for anyone hoping to predict the Oscars winners successfully.

This year’s event - which took place in the early hours of Monday (January 20) morning UK time - saw South Korean film Parasite taking home the Best Ensemble cast accolade.

It was somewhat of a surprise winner, beating well-fancied heavyweights including Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, The Irishman and Bombshell.

Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger also cemented their place as Academy Award favourites, winning Best Actor and Best Actress for their respective roles in Joker and Judy.

The winners are chosen by their peers and the ceremony also honours stars from the TV world.

Phoebe Waller Bridge took home yet another prize for her work on Fleabag’s second season, adding to her Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards and Emmy wins.

“At some point, it will all hit me and I will have a good old cry about it,” she said in her speech. “Tonight as a Fleabag gang, we will soak this up... in a room I never imagined I would be in.

“This whole thing really has been a dream and if I wake up tomorrow and discover it has been just that, then thank you, it has been the most beautiful dream.”

Former husband and wife Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were both among the winners while The Irishman’s Robert De Niro was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
