Note: Contains spoilers for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina part 3.

Technically, the only thing separating Riverdale from Sabrina's home of Greendale is Sweetwater River, but in reality, there's a lot more going on that's prevented the two shows from fully crossing over... until now.

At one point, Riverdale was going to introduce Sabrina as a character on their show, but since the teenage witch went solo on Netflix, the only connections between the two came in the form of enchanting Easter eggs (and a surprise pizza delivery).

That's all changed now though in Sabrina part three. For the first time ever, one of the lead characters crossed Sweetwater River to visit their neighboring town, and neither Riverdale nor Sabrina will ever be the same again.

Did Penelope Blossom just appear in Sabrina?

In the very first episode of Sabrina's latest chapter, a familiar face suddenly appears during a random visit to New Orleans. Out of nowhere, Cheryl's mother from Riverdale enters a room alongside Father Blackwood, calling herself Ms Dubois.

It's not long before viewers discover that this woman is actually none other than Prudence, disguised using a glamour spell. Still, the scene is designed to make us think that Penelope Blossom has crossed over to Sabrina at first, thanks in large part to Nathalie Boltt's involvement.

While this cameo isn't a direct crossover in the traditional sense, Cheryl Blossom's family line continues to link the two shows a couple of episodes later as well.

In what might be the toughest homework assignment of all time, Sabrina is tasked with finding three ancient relics of immense power to secure her place on the throne of hell.

Thanks to Ambrose and his Giles-like fixation on research, the third episode reveals that one of these prizes, King Herod's crown, is now in Riverdale (of all places?)

But how did it get there? Well, after everyone from Jakey Huisman and famed occultist Aleister Crowley failed to keep hold of the crown, an American soldier stole it from Hitler's bunker in 1945. His name? Private Benjamin Blossom.

According to Ambrose, Cheryl's (great?) grandfather snuck back to Riverdale with the crown where he was murdered by a group of occultists who wanted it for themselves. No one has seen it since, but that doesn't stop Sabrina from crossing over Sweetwater River to find Herod's prized possession for herself.

When Sabrina and Ambrose finally arrive in Riverdale in search of the crown, they pass a welcome sign which has the words "Murder capital of the world" written on the back. Between all of the havoc caused by the Black Hood and the Gargoyle King, that's pretty accurate.

The words "JJ wuz here" are also scrawled underneath, marking the second time Jughead Jones's writing has popped up on Sabrina. And in case you're wondering if that really is Jughead's handiwork, look out for the little crown above which symbolises his now infamous hat.

The only thing we can't get our head around is the poor spelling. Archie's best mate is a prolific writer, so he must have been off his nut on jingle jangle to make such a glaring mistake like that.

Remember when Riverdale was hit by a zombie apocalypse? Neither do we, because that comic-book storyline was eventually cut from the writers room completely, but the third episode of Sabrina has now confirmed the undead still roam Riverdale anyway.

On her quest to find Herod's crown, Sabrina accidentally wakes up a zombified version of Herod himself who she found sleeping in a tree. While the exact location isn't confirmed, this now definitively proves that the supernatural exists in Riverdale too.

Not only could this impact the future of the show in many unforeseen ways, but it could also explain some mysteries from the past as well, including how on earth those babies started floating way back at the beginning of Riverdale season three.

Unfortunately, Sabrina doesn't encounter Betty sleuthing or Archie standing around with his top off during her time in Riverdale. However, a somewhat familiar face does follow her back to Greendale just a short time later.

Right before Hilda sprouts eight legs and gets real hungry, she asks the lovely Dr Cerberus to visit a diner in Riverdale that sells "the juiciest hamburgers and the thickest milkshakes." That's right. Hilda's boyfriend pops over to Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe and presumably chats with the loveable owner at some point too.

While we don't get to see that adorable interaction play out on screen, we do meet another Riverdale resident later on in the same episode. Soon after Hilda goes full tarantula, a Southside Serpent makes an ill-fated visit to the Cerberus book store, which ends in a whole lot of blood and one less member for Jughead's gang.

Now that Riverdale and Sabrina have officially crossed over, the petition for a cheerleader face-off between Cheryl and the teenage witch starts right here.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is now available to watch on Netflix.
