Sabrina Carpenter narrowly avoids being hit by firework display on stage at Outside Lands
It occurred after she finished her set on Saturday night.
Sabrina Carpenter nearly brewed up some burnt espresso during her headlining set at Outside Lands over the weekend.
The pop singer, 25, narrowly avoided being hit by a pyrotechnics display following her set at the San Francisco music festival on Saturday. As seen in footage captured by attendees and by the livestream of the event on Amazon Music, a startled Carpenter is dancing in front of a barrier when the sparks behind her go rogue, prompting her to let out multiple screams and run off the platform.
Carpenter had already finished her set — which ended with "Espresso" — and thanked her crew and the audience when she ran in front of the barrier at the back of the stage, dancing to the instrumental send-off music. She only danced for a few seconds before the fireworks started, appearing to go off very close to her. The band continued to play and the fireworks finished after Carpenter and her team left the stage.
Carpenter stepped in as a last-minute headliner after the previously tapped Tyler, the Creator had to pull out back in June. The singer is gearing up for the release of her sixth studio album Short n' Sweet (out Aug. 23), a follow-up to the acclaimed Emails I Can't Send.

Her set list included "Feather," "Nonsense," and summer hit "Please Please Please," the first single from her forthcoming new album. Carpenter also sprinkled some country into her set, enlisting Kacey Musgraves to join her on stage for a cover of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots are Made for Walkin'."
In an Instagram post following her set that featured snapshots from the festival, Carpenter thanked attendees and "the angel" that is Musgraves. "All the talented people who made this show happen on and off stage, I love you all so much," she wrote.
She didn't mention the firework incident.
For those who missed Carpenter in the Bay Area, fret not. The pop star is set to return to San Francisco when she embarks on her first arena tour spanning the U.S. and Europe in promotion of Short n' Sweet. It kicks off Sept. 23 in Ohio and concludes March 26, 2025 in Italy.
It's been a whirlwind year for the singer, who made her Coachella debut earlier this year. It was followed by a stint on Saturday Night Live as musical guest on the May 18 episode with host Jake Gyllenhaal. The former Disney Channel star, who performed "Espresso" and "Feather"/"Nonsense" on the Studio 8H stage, also returned to her acting roots and appeared in a Scooby-Doo sketch as Daphne.
She made headlines in June when she tapped boyfriend Barry Keoghan to appear in the Bonnie and Clyde-esque music video for "Please Please Please." Carpenter recently told Variety of the actor's involvement, "I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”
