That is, until he didn’t.
“So, @robmcelhenney kindly did a cameo in D&W,” Reynolds posted on Friday, along with photos of McElhenney both masked and unmasked as a TVA agent.
When all was said and done, however, “The sequence wasn’t working and Rob is why it stayed in the cut for so long,” Reynolds said. That said, “Even under a TVA mask, you can feel him smoldering with a raw, untapped reservoir of intensity.
“Don’t get me started on Wrexham,” Reynolds added, referring to their venture as co-owners of a Welsh football team. “I wouldn’t know a love like that if it weren’t for Rob.”
“It feels good when friends are nearby,” filmdom’s Deadpool continued. “And even though I’m mortified he flew to London for me” — only to wind up on the cutting room floor — “I’m grateful my friend [was] on that set. Rob shows up for people. It’s why he’s the absolute best.”
Reynolds ended the Thread by suggesting that McElhenney’s character “begged for his life before Alioth snatched his unsuspecting body into the air, swallowing him whole, eventually digesting and converting him into Alioth-poo. RIP TVA Soldier. ❤️🙏💛”
On the day that the blockbuster film hit theaters, McElhenney shared on Twitter how he “traveled 6 thousand miles to shoot my cameo,” joking, “I hope you enjoyed it because the theater I was watching in had mistakenly cut it out. Since I KNOW Ryan wouldn’t do me like that, I look forward to catching the movie and my cameo again today!”
