Bayern Munich’s move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha has collapsed, who was intended to be a replacement for Liverpool-bound Ryan Gravenberch.
Palhinha has been desperate to make the switch to the Bundesliga champions but the deal was not completed before the 5pm transfer deadline in Germany.
Bayern can still sell players (to overseas clubs) after the deadline, but there have been suggestions that they may be reluctant to let Ryan Gravenberch leave after failing to bring in a replacement.
According to German transfer journalist Kerry Hau, Palhinha’s long-anticipated move to Bayern has ‘failed.’
“Madness! No release from London: The transfer of João Palhinha to FC Bayern failed!” Hau said.
Liverpool will now understandably be fearful that Bayern could make a dramatic U-Turn and refuse to sell Gravenberch to them.
The Reds have already agreed a fee with the German club, and the Dutch midfielder is due to have a medical at some point today.
Romano: Palhinha collapse will NOT affect Liverpool deal
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Gravenberch deal, reputed transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has insisted that Liverpool will still get their man.
“Sources confirm Ryan Gravenberch deal should be and will be fine despite the incredible turnaround with Joao Pahlinha,” Romano said on Twitter.
“Liverpool believe all documents needed are already signed.” Romano later added: “Ryan Gravenberch deal, sealed — the feeling on all parties is very clear. Ryan will play for Liverpool.”
With that in mind, everything still points towards Gravenberch completing his move to Anfield, despite Bayern failing to sign Palhinha before the deadline.
